Apple Cider Vinegar Workshop

apple cider vinegar workshop

Apple Cider Vinegar one of the stars in recent years!

Saturday 21st November 2023 at 9.30-11am

It found its way into our lives again despite being used for centuries as a home remedy and in cooking.

Apple cider vinegar is made by fermenting the sugars from apples which turns them into acetic acid – the active ingredient in vinegar.

In the shops, you may see apple cider vinegar labelled as ‘filtered’ (a clear liquid), or unfiltered – the latter containing something known as ‘mother’. This means there are proteins, enzymes and friendly bacteria present, and gives this type of vinegar a cloudy appearance.

I love fermenting and have been fermenting for years now and I believe that you can make this delicious vinegar by yourself at home too – fermenting is easy!

Benefits:

It contains small amount of potassium, calcium, magnesium and amino acids and antioxidants.

According to BBCGoodFood website, these are 5 benefits of apple cider vinegar.

  • May help manage blood sugar levels
  • May balance cholesterol
  • May act as an anti-microbial
  • May aid weight loss
  • May reduce belly fat

You may find more benefits online. From my personal experience it helps with digestion and general health combined with a good healthy lifestyle.

What you will need for the workshop:

  • apples 3-4 depending on their size ideally organic or home-grown, have rather more than less as you can eat them or make more vinegar later on
  • half a litre of filtered or distilled water (no tap water)
  • a sterilised 1l glass jar
  • a bowl
  • cheesecloth or any 100% cotton cloth to cover the top of the jar
  • rubber band
  • knife, wooden spoon, chopping board, box grater
  • if you don’t have organic or home-grown apples have a peeler too

Later when your vinegar finished its fermentation period you will need a non-metal sieve, cheesecloth/cotton cloth, another jar or glass jug.

This is a hands on workshop run via Zoom. You will create your first batch online to start your fermenting journey. You can ask any questions during the workshop by typing a message in Zoom.

I am looking forward to sharing with you this ancient technique that is so valuable in these days and it is easy and cheap.

I also run another fermenting workshop – How to make sauerkraut at home. If you wish to join both of these, there is a discount waiting for you!

Have a wonderful day and I’ll hopefully see you online!
